The brief was for a more suggestive illustration style, and I really like the effect of the looser line-work. It somehow feels a bit ‘friendlier’ than a lot of my more technical fitness illustrations.

Running technique illustration for Australian Men’s Fitness magazine.

This appeared as two different illustrations in print, but I’ve combined them here. It’s always fun playing with halftone dots to get that old school print effect.

And for those kids of the ’90s, please don’t sweat the technique.

While doing research for this illustration I came across an old copy of the Illustrated History of Golf, which I found for the bargain price of $1 in a second-hand bookstore on Oxford St, Sydney.

The book is filled with old black and white photos of golfers wearing the most amazing outfits to keep warm during the freezing Scottish weather. The clothes in those photos served as perfect inspiration for my golfer below.

I wasn’t 100% happy with the illustrations I submitted to FHM Australia (which were on a white background). While preparing the images for this post I added a paper texture, which seems to suit the subject matter much better.
